SCREENING & TALK | 1:54 | FRANCOPHONIE FESTIVAL

Awarded at the Festival of Namur and the Festival of Angoulême, catch “1:54“, exploring the issues of cyberbullying while following Tim, a shy sixteen-year-old athlete with a natural gift for running, dealing with the loss of his mother, as well as his sexuality. After the screening, don’t miss the opportunity to take part in Q&A discussion with Carmine Filice, Personal Academic Counselor at the Singapore American School and Leow Yangfa, Executive Director of Oogachaga, an LGBTQ counselling and support organisation.

Synopsis:
Tim is a Grade 11 student dealing with the passing of his mother several years ago and his own sexuality as a 16-year-old going on 17. At the age of 12, he was a star runner with his mother as his coach. Her death caused him to give up running and he is often harassed and bullied by the jocks at school. Tim eventually decides to start running again and expands his circle of friends. Jeff, his main competitor on the track, continues to harass Tim and blackmails him to hurt Tim’s performance on the track with disastrous results.
